Al-Monsour Automotive

The Al-Monsour Automotive Company (السيارات شركة منصور) and Monsour Group (مجموعة منصور) is an importer and car dealer located in Alexandria, Egypt. The company was founded by Mr. Lotfi Mansour in 1975. The current company owners are the brothers Yusuf Monsour and Yassin Mansour. Yassin is the official Egyptian Minister of Transport. Since its founding, the company is working together with the General Motors Company and is today regarded as a local general importer.

Just eight years after the founding, the company opened an joint venture with General Motors. In this joint-venture company, the firm is manufacturing cars, trucks and pickups for the markets of Egypt and the Middle East. The building of the plant was the part of GM. The staff of the plant comes from the Al-Monsour Automotive. Al-Monsour is the main shareholder and the official owner of the plant, but GM reserves contradictory to the house rights, which is part of a separately negotiated contract. This is only temporary and will be renewed regularly. The joint venture company operates under the name General Motors Egypt S.A.E. and is located in Cairo.

In addition to the Egyptian domestic market, the markets of the United Arab Emirates, Ghana, Kenya and the Russian Federation have an important role for the company also. In these countries there are contracts with large companies like McDonald's, Caterpillar, Kraft Foods and several other companies. These firms are supplied by the Al-Monsour Automotive Company with appropriate refrigerated trucks. Only ten percent of the company is owned by the General Motors Company. Al-Monsour employs worldwide more than 11,500 workers.
